Energy pinch course
PDC provides a 1 day introductory course
on the basic principles of pinch
technology. Using a case study you will learn how to
realize energy savings by using this technique. The course
is intended for process engineers, utility engineers, process
design engineers, R&D engineers and project managers
who are active in the maintenance and optimization of industrial
processes, and for others (e.g. university teachers) who
are interested in industrial energy saving practices.
PDC not only organizes courses for individual participants,
but also provides in-house courses to companies on request.
If you are interested in attending a course or would like
PDC to provide an in-house course at your company, please
contact us.
Energy Pinch Course content
- Targeting:
Determination of the minimum energy demand of a process
by graphical representation of the available energy and
the energy demand as a function of temperature. Also the
minimum number of heat exchangers and the minimum
heat-exchange surface needed will be determined.
- Network design:
Method to reach the specified targets by a systematic
design of heat-exchanger networks
- Data extraction:
Extraction of relevant data needed for a pinch analysis
from the process data
- Process modifications:
Changes in process to reduce energy targets
- Energy-capital
cost trade-off: Optimization of energy cost versus
capital cost
- Retrofits:
Use of pinch technology in existing processes. Existing
heat exchangers are taken into consideration and 'targets'
are determined in view of a desired pay-back time
- Total site pinch
study: By the construction of a 'site source-sink
profile' the possibilities for integration of various
processes on one site can be identified
During the courses a manual is distributed
(ca. 100 pages), which also serves as a reference book.
PDC also offers courses
in the following areas:
